Product Description Summary and Evaluation Draft #3

With reference to an online article “Delivering excellent service with Singtel Fleet Visibility” from Singtel (n.d.), Singtel Fleet Visibility is a product offering solutions for fleet management, making real-time tracking of fleet locations a reality. Singtel Fleet Visibility allows its subscribers to identify and monitor vehicle usage, as well as its operation status. In turn, this may allow for issues to be rectified, reducing the downtime of vehicles.

According to Singtel, "Geo Boundary Alerts" is one of the features made available to its subscribers. They can opt to be notified should a vehicle diverge from its assigned route. Past routes are also viewable when required, bringing analysis to a whole new level. The availability of these information may help to reduce the complexity involved in business and operations planning. Currently, access to these features are coupled to a mobile application, currently only available on Android devices with web access available as the default. The combination of all the features may allow companies to notice a reduction in financial costs, such as fuel expenses and maintenance costs, coupled with higher productivity and operational efficiency.

In terms of competitive advantage, Singtel is able to lead its competitors through its exhaustive features and value added services. Its participation in the Bridge Alliance programme is also an additional bonus which benefits subscribers who operates overseas. In addition, the integration of its fleet and workforce management capabilities under one platform and the availability of a mobile application provides the flexibility for subscribers to manage their fleet, assets and resources on the go with their Android mobile devices.

In comparison to similar services such as Starhub Fleet Manager, there are several areas whereby Singtel can improve. As stated in Starhub Fleet Manager(n.d.), real-time updates are made available through the portal itself, email or SMS notification. Not to mention that there is also an additional layer of security preventing any unauthorized usage of vehicle through a driver authentication process. However, Singtel Fleet Visibility is a preferable choice due to its extensive features and the functionality of the service it offers. As a renowned satellite communications services provider in Singapore, subscribers subscribing to the services from Singtel can benefit from its state of the art facilities, providing “comprehensive and reliable GSM network coverage.” On top of that, the Bridge Alliance programme, which is a business alliance between major mobile telecommunication companies all over the world, offers additional savings to the subscribers, should there be a need for them to operate overseas.

In addition, subscribers are able to select either a 3G or 4G GPS tracker, based on their needs. The device is accompanied with Singtel network coverage at an affordable price. Moreover, the subscription price entitles its subscribers access to both its Fleet Manager and Workforce Manager Application under a single platform, which may reduce the need for additional subscriptions. From a financial perspective, it is a more cost effective option as compared to subscribing multiple services from its competitors, as the price of one subscription enables its subscribers to gain access to two different software.

In summary, although there are plenty of options in the market, but the extensive amount of features integrated in Singtel Fleet Visibility provides a solution to any companies requiring fleet tracking and management, allowing them to leverage on the technology and grow.

Product Summary Draft #2

Singtel Fleet Visibility
Based on an online article “Delivering excellent service with Singtel Fleet Visibility” from Singtel myBusiness Techblog (n.d), Singtel Fleet Visibility is one of their innovations, making real-time tracking of fleet locations a reality. To support the operation of the product, usage of satellite and mobile networks are required in order to transmit the locations of fleet vehicles and resources.

Singtel Fleet Visibility allows its users to identify and monitor vehicle usage, vehicle status as well as any unnecessary idling of vehicle. In turn, it may help to improve the overall vehicle condition, reducing downtime of vehicles, which may lead to an improvement in overall productivity. Meanwhile, it also helps to ensure the conformity of drivers according to road traffic regulations.

One of the features, Geo Boundary Alerts is also made available to its users. Users can opt to be notified when a vehicle diverge from its assigned route. Past routes are also viewable when required, bringing analysis to a whole new level, reducing the complexity involved in business planning. These features may allow companies to see a reduction of fuel expenses, coupled with higher productivity and enhancing efficiency in terms of management and processes. Currently, access to these features are coupled to a mobile application, currently only available on Android devices. Web access is also available when required.

In comparison to other companies offering similar services such as Starhub Fleet Manager, Singtel Fleet Visibility might be a more preferable choice due to the extensive features and functionality the company offers. As a renowned satellite communications services provider in Singapore, companies subscribing the services from Singtel can benefit from its state of the art facilities, providing “comprehensive and reliable GSM network coverage.” Moreover, it is one of the few companies which offers 3G and 4G GPS Tracker, accompanied with its own GSM network, ensuring that outage are mitigated internally.

The availability of a mobile application is a plus point, enabling users to manage the company fleet and resources just by a touch on their Android mobile devices. However, when pitted against Starhub Fleet Manager in terms of management, Singtel Fleet Visibility might not be as attractive due to the lack of alternate platforms in receiving updates from the trackers installed within the company fleet and resources. For example, in the event of a downtime in the mobile application, it may affect the company operations, which may result in unwanted losses.

To power the operations of its users, Singtel recommends the Motorola TC55 mobile device although there are no compatibility issues with other Android mobile devices. The Motorola TC55 is able to significantly reduce the downtime operation of situations relating battery power. In addition, the additional device run time can promote longer work time operations without much compromise.

The combination between the fleet manager and workforce manager features aids in improving productivity and fleet management, by providing several data to assist its users. Analyzing from a financial perspective, it may also be a more cost effective option as compared to its competitors as the price of one subscription enables the users to access two different software.

In summary, the numerous features offered by Singtel Fleet Visibility will make it a good choice for any companies requiring fleet tracking and management.
